Diablo 4's lead developers have stressed that they don't want players to "feel like they can pay to win" when the game launches next year.

During a recent Diablo 4 livestream (opens in a new tab), Game Director Joe Shely, Associate Game Director Joesph Piepiora, and Community Manager Adam Fletcher gave fans all the latest on Diablo 4 and got an in-depth look at How that happened will be worked out ahead of the game's release next summer.

During the stream, the trio discussed the Diablo 4 Battle Pass (around 39:15 in the video below) and the game's upcoming season. Pipiola said: "It's really important to us to balance what you find in the battle pass, they are compelling and very fair, and we don't want any situation where players feel they can pay for winning. .”

To make a clear distinction between the Battle Pass and Diablo 4's seasons, Pipiola explained, "The Season Journey is still in Diablo 4, just like you'd find it in Diablo 3." Chapter-Based Mechanics Players will be given various objectives to progress through the season and earn in-game rewards for their characters. "All seasonal content is completely free. It's not attached to the battle pass itself," Shely added.

To clear up any confusion, Shely explained that when Diablo 4 gold launches on June 6, 2023, it won't immediately start with season one. "Season 1 will come a few weeks after the game's release, and when Season 1 starts, everyone will start at the same time, and everyone will have a level playing field," the developer said. Competitive features in Diablo 4 (eg: leaderboards) will obviously appear during the season, so those who didn't pay for early access don't have to worry about any unfairness.

"Our major season updates are completely free, and they're full of new progression mechanics, new monster fights, challenges, new quests, and content to spend," Piepiora added. "There's a lot to look forward to in there. Include the box price of games you've already purchased."
